Country Fair 2017 - "Oh, What a Night"

Fundraisers • May 30th, 2017 • (updated: Aug 11th, 2017) • 0 Comments

On May 6th our latest fundraiser themed "Country Fair 2017" was another epic event!  In keeping with the traditions of years past, as you walked in through the front gate you were greeted by our club members and offered a glass of champagne.  Our location for the past several years, Hurst Ranch, was again alive with the excitement of all the night had to offer. If you were feeling lucky, our one of a kind Opportunity Baskets were on display, you could pick a basket from our Wheel of Fortune or head on over to the Casino area for a little gaming action!  There were over 20 local food vendors offering an awesome variety of good eats!  The Main Bar was front and center hosting lots of cold cocktails and beer and the Wine Bars poured freely right beside it!  And who can forget the Fine Liquors Sampling area which was very popular as was the Craft Beer Tent. Just ask Sheriff Robert who is said to have sampled plenty! Around the corner from the beverage areas, the Ash Street Ramblers, a blue grass band, kept the outside guests entertained as well.

Inside the main hall, the VIP tables sparkled in welcome! "Big Band Theory", an 18 piece band with members from JPL, kept the party goers inside on their feet as they have now for many years at our events. Also inside the main hall were over 100 silent auction items beckoning for your bid.  About 8:30 was definitely the highlight and Rotary moment of the night!  Guests were treated to a rousing rendition of "Proud to be an American" by our special guest, Firefighter of the Year, Humberto Agurcia!  What an honor to have him share this gift!  Not a dry eye in the house when he was done!   Next up was the much anticipated Live Auction event to bring the evening to a close.

Just as all the guests were gone and the Rotarians were partaking in a little well deserved "after party", you could hear thunder in the air and the skies opened up!  Event chair Shannon Hidalgo, who had been praying for weeks that rain would not interrupt the event, smiled up at the sky and said "Bring it On"!

Thank you to all who attended!  Hope you had an amazing night! We've already set the date for next year's event! Mark your calendar for May 19, 2018 and we'll see you next year!

Operation Santa Clothes

Our flagship Operation Santa Clothes program has clothed over 35,000 kids with new clothes! We have also been able to provide over $50,000 in scholarships in seven high schools. OSC began in 1994 serving 73 children from one Covina school. The project focuses not only on provided clothing, but giving self esteem, character development, and a sense of caring to these kids. You can help with a tax deductible donation here. See our Santa Clothes page to make a donation or for more information.
