More Stockings for Troops

Setting a new record, Sunrise Rotary completed 564 stockings for troops this year. The stockings contain various items that will be received with smiles by our troops stationed overseas. Sunrise Rotary members along with help from the Covina High Interact, Northview High Interact, Las Palmas Interact and ASB students from Charter oak high, were able to prepare the stockings for shipment. Sunrise Rotary of Covina along with Holy Trinity church of Covina honored 3 dedicated 1st responders on Sunday, September 29th. Mardi Gras 2024 a Success!

May 18, 2024 from 6pm to 10pm! That's when CSR held its most recent major annual fundaiser! This year the new theme was Mardi Gras in May and, as usual, we did everything we could to make it a major party as were the Boots, Booze & Boogie events. Sunrise Rotarians & Interactors package 15,000 meals for local distribution thru the Outreach Program!

For yet another year, the CSR Outreach Food Program held in February 2024 at Covina HS was a huge success!  Sunrise Club members alongside Covina HS Interact & Key Club, Las Palmas MS Interact, and students from Northview HS and Charter Oak HS plus a handful of Boy Scouts packaged 15,000 nutrition packed meals of Rice & Beans in just under 2 hours.  Recipients of the meal packs are food banks: Project 29:11, Sacred Heart Church, Elim Community Food Pantry & Shepherd's Pantry.

Boots, Booze & Boogie Redux

The 2023 Boots, Booze & Boogie fundraiser will be held on April 29, 2003 as we pass our 40th anniversary year. The event will be held at the Covina Woman's Club on San Jose Street in Covina starting at 5:30pm. There will be the usual auction items, free beer & wine, great food from several of Covina area restaurants, casino room and the fabulous $1000 Cash Tornado for you to win! Tickets are $75 from any CSR member or at the door. Dress code: Western Boogie!

Las Palmas MS Interactors in action!

On Wednesday, February 16, proud CSR mentors, Robert Avila and Shannon Hidalgo, attended LP Live at Las Palmas Middle School.  Our newly formed Interact club greeted visitors with a tour of different stations layed out to showcase what Interact is all about! Holiday Breakfast 2021

Sunrise Rotary had its 2021 Holiday Party in December and Santa Claus came and a good time was had by all. For some unbeknownst reason our regular meeting location was locked up when we arrived for our annual Christmas Breakfast. With some lightning quick thinking and some good restaurant friends we were able to relocate to Millie’s Restaurant for our Holiday Bash. Stockings, stockings and more stockings --- Christmas stockings for the Troops that is. On November 19th, 2021 Covina Sunrise Rotarians gathered early in the morning to fill and prepare 220 Christmas Stockings for Troops stationed overseas. Together with the Interact Club at Covina High and our brand new Interact Club at Las Palmas Middle School we filled and packaged 220 Christmas stockings. The Interact Students and Rotarians donated Granola Bars, Candy, Chocolate, Sunflower Seeds, lip balm, and many other items to fill the stockings. Annual Chili Cook Off

Covina Sunrise Rotary had a great Chili Cook Off on Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 2 to 5 pm at Azo Vino Wine Bar.  We had 15 entrees into the contest and all the chili was delicious.  We had a great turnout and there was a lot of comradery seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Everyone enjoyed the jazz band and the wonderful atmosphere throughout the afternoon. Stockings for the Troops

Covina Sunrise Rotary prepared 144 Stockings for troops stationed overseas to be received in time for Christmas 2020. The holiday-style stockings were filled with socks, beanies, gloves, candy, beef jerky, gum, chips, soup, Nutrigrain bars, cookies and hand sanitizers, The soldiers, currently stationed in South Korea, were very appreciative as can be seen in the below photos. CSR supporting our community volunteers during the pandemic!

Since March, Covina Sunrise Rotary has been showing our support for community volunteers and essential workiers by providing lunches to these very deserving community heros!

Lunch recipients include the Nursing staff at Citrus Valley Health Center, Officers of Covina Police Department and the Volunteers assisting  in food pick up and distribution Fridays at Project 29:11 Food Bank.  CSR has also been a large contributor of goods as well as volunteers at the Project 29:11 food bank in Covina.

OSC is still activley clothing kids! 

Recently, OSC provided shoes, pants and shirts to a family of seven kids.  Also, OSC assisted a homeless mother with 2 children- provided a motel for them to stay in for a week while they were getting their housing situation resolved.

CSR does a Karaoke Kickout!

On June 27, 2020, incoming CSR president Cicero Salmon opened the kickout party hosted at Robert Avila's house. Social distancing was suggested and it offered "...Libations, food, entertainment, jokes, prizes and more. An enjoyable casual get-together to celebrate the end to Bill Higleys presidential term." Although masks were optional, it appears that all came through without a single Covid-19 case!

It is with heavy heart, we must report that starting on March 18, 2020, the mighty Covina Sunrise Rotary Club will not be having its regular meetings for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, it has been decided that our upcoming events, including the Disco At The Barn (May 16th) are now cancelled.

2020 Chili Cookoff Event

The annual CSR Chili Cookoff was held on March 1, 2020 this year at the Azo Vino Wine Bar at 678 S Citrus Avenue in Covina. The event started at 1:00pm and ran through 5:00pm. Prizes were awarded for Judges Pick and the Peoples' Choice in addition to having the winner's name inscribed on our perpetual trophy. President Shannon Kicked Out!

June 30, 2018 marked an end of the line for the Sparkle Princess. A year of life at the top of CSR had come to completion for president Shannon Hidalgo at a spectacular kickout party in her honor. The event was held on the last day of her reign so as to celebrate every last drop of the year she has so magnificently presided over. Our newest member is Ms. Nancy Leal. She has been a Member of CSR since 2023, working on our projects and attending meetings. She joined Covina Sunrise because of her desire to help the less fortunate people in our community. She also appreciates the fellowship and social interaction that our club provides. Free Reading Program for Kids!

 

We are a proud sponsor of a new, online FREE Reading program for kids in K-6. The program is compatible with most Internet browsers used by desktop and tablet computers. Anyone can easily sign up for the program free through our website. Just click on the logo above to get to the login page for the program.

The goal is to enhance the literacy skills of English language learners of all grade school ages. The FREE reading program will help improve English reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and much more! Currently there are over 110,000 kids enrolled! If you have or know children of grade school age, check out the program - we believe it can really help improve literacy in our youth.

Operation Santa Clothes

Our flagship Operation Santa Clothes program has clothed over 35,000 kids with new clothes! We have also been able to provide over $50,000 in scholarships in seven high schools. OSC began in 1994 serving 73 children from one Covina school. The project focuses not only on provided clothing, but giving self esteem, character development, and a sense of caring to these kids.
